The Other White House: Germantown Journeys

CANCELED!  EXTREME HEAT PREDICTED

Stay safe and cool.

Friday, June 21, 10 AM to noon
Meet at corner of Germantown Avenue and School House Lane

A leisurely-paced two-hour walk and talk Tour.  Experience 341 years of Germantown stories: from the first settlers, to the first anti-slavery petition, to the Revolutionary War, to the Civil War, to the Underground Railroad, to our 2024 reality.

On this 0.8-mile walk, we will learn about the Deshler-Morris House, the role of Chelten Avenue, Vernon Park, ACES Minorities Museum, the YWCA, FUMCO, Town Hall, the Mennonite Meetinghouse, and the Johnson House.

We will take a short sit-down break in the beautiful and serene Wyck House Botanical Garden.

We will not enter the wonderful historic mansions. On this tour, we will note them as an important part of the longer story, as a significant part of the evolution of the vibrant and dynamic Germantown neighborhood.

About our guide: Elise Bromberg Is a docent and tour guide for The Penn Museum, The Mural Arts Program, and Philly Touch Tours. She is certified by the Association of Philadelphia Tour Guides.
