Dr. Paul Offitt, Director of the Vaccine Education Center at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, talks about vaccines and COVID 19.
Dr. Offit is an internationally recognized expert in the fields of virology and immunology and has published more than 130 papers in medical and scientific journals. Known for his public advocacy for vaccines, he spoke frequently on television during the Covid 19 pandemic. "Taking Charge of Your Bone Health" with Joanne Fagerstrom, PT, CFP

Joanne Fagerstrom, PT, CFP, discusses ways to prevent such fractures in this free Zoom workshop. A physical therapist for over 40 years, she was diagnosed with osteoporosis in 2009. She then began to research the condition and to develop her bone health program, which has enabled her to reverse the diagnosis.
She presents information based on the latest, evidence-based guidelines from the medical community. In this presentation, she focuses on exercises – those that are good and those that should be avoided for people with spinal osteoporosis.

Burning Man Festival with Charlie Day

We asked Charlie to talk about his experiences at Burning Man because it was in the news when it turned into a sea of mud. But it was so much more! A combination of organization, creativity, and spontaneity brought 72,000 people to the desert for a week of art, music, and community. Saving Wildlife in the Gulf of Maine

Village member Winston Moody told us the survival stories of six animals commonly seen on nature cruises in the Gulf of Maine – three birds (the osprey, the eagle, and the loon), two mammals (the seal and the porpoise), and a crustacean (the lobster). Winston talked about how these animals live, and how they survive the threats that face them.

Fix Harrisburg
Fix Harrisburg is a campaign organized by Fair Districts PA and the League of Women Voters of PA, seeking to reform the rules that allow these and other abuses to happen.
Charlie Day, member of EFV, Fair Districts PA, and Fix Harrisburg led the discussion on how partisan gatekeepers have controlled the agenda of the State House, blocking reform and bipartisan solutions to issues such as equitable school funding, health care, legislator ethics, open primaries, and property tax reform.

Repatriation: The Moral Responsibility of the Art World
Did you miss Greer Pagano's discussion of the pressing topics of repatriation and restitution within the art world. Drawing on examples like the Benin Bronzes and the Elgin Marbles, she asks about the role of encyclopedic museums in the West, cultural legacies of colonialism and imperialism, and the calls for restorative justice. She also touched on philosophical questions about who owns artwork as well as the current legal frameworks put into place so that great masterworks can return to their rightful homes.

8 Days in Morocco
Carla Lewandowski (the Village's Administrative Coordinator) traveled with her husband to Morocco in May of 2022. They traveled to Casablanca, Marrakesh, and Fez. Carla will discuss her trip and all the fun activities she did, including visiting the various medinas, a cooking class in the Atlas Mountains, a camel ride in the desert, and so much more.

Venice Art Biennale with Greer Pagano
Greer Pagano gave a wonderful presentation on the Venice Biennnale. She told us of the history of this international exhibition from its beginnings in 1895 to this year's event with more than 100 venues throughout the city. Safety Technology for Older Adults
Caitlin McKenney of TechOWL (Technology for our Whole Lives) at Temple University introduced many low-tech and high-tech devices to help older (and younger) adults. She showed us gadgets and apps to help with medication, fall prevention, and more.

Continuing the Legacy of Paul Robeson: A Renaissance Man
Northwest Village Network hosted a fascinating Zoom event on the life of Paul Robeson. Janice Sykes-Ross, CEO of the organization that owns the Paul Robeson House and Museum, recounted Robeson’s multi-faceted life as a singer, actor, lawyer, civil rights activist, and agitator. Vernoca L. Michael, who called Robeson “Uncle Paul,” shared stories about her experiences with Robeson who was a neighbor and a close friend of her parents for the last ten years of his life. Members of the audience recalled long-ago memories of see Robeson in concerts and plays.

An Alaska Uncruise
Roger Marsh told us about his recent trip on a small ship, visiting glaciers, hiking in bear country, and viewing whales, seals, otters, and more. The cruise (or “Uncruise” as the company calls itself) spent a week in fjords and coves so wild that a day could go by with no other sign of humans. Small boats took us close to glaciers. The more adventurous passengers hiked steep slopes of temperate rain forest, kayaked among glacial ice, or even snorkeled in the cold water.
