Bus Tour of the Wingohocking Watershed

Village members Susan Erickson and Peg Hallenbeck took this special trip a few years ago and highly recommend it to others who are interested in our area, our history, and of course, water!
We will explore the Watershed of the Wingohocking Creek on an intriguing and fact-filled ride through Germantown, Mt. Airy, Logan, and Juniata.
Where is the Wingohocking Creek? You can’t find it on a map because in the late 1800’s, the city began to encapsulate creeks into brick-lined sewer pipes. This process took over 40 years to complete.
One of the stops will be at Awbury Arboretum, where you can see the only remaining surface flow of the creek. Other stops will be at several still-standing historic mill buildings, which once stood along the banks of the Wingohocking.
Bring a bag lunch (East Falls Village will provide bottled water). Our lunch stop will be at the historic Stenton Mansion, where we will have lunch outside (weather permitting).
We will also tour Stenton Mansion.
The bus tour is free, but tour-goers are asked to make a cash donation of at least $10 to Stenton.
NOTE: This is a school bus – no cushy seats, no restroom facilities. But there will be two rest stops in addition to our stop at Stenton.
