Each year, over $60 billion are lost to fraud, errors, and abuse in Medicare. Money lost to fraud means fewer dollars available for needed services and decreased quality of care for all. The Senior Medicare Patrol program, or SMP, is a national initiative dedicated to curbing fraud and abuse in Medicare and Medicaid. Join CARIE (Center for Advocacy for the Rights and Interest of the Elderly) volunteerDan Louisto learn more about what you can to do protect, detect, and report Medicare Fraud. This program will feature information about scams specifically related to COVID-19, fraud, and best practices for older adults, their families, and caregivers to protect themselves from malicious persons and entities.
About CARIE: Since its founding in 1977, CARIE has been fulfilling its mission to promote the well-being, rights, and autonomy of older adults through advocacy, education, and action. As a leading advocate in aging, CARIE’s work advances the health, safety, and dignity of older adults from all socioeconomic, racial, and cultural backgrounds.
About Dan Louis:A volunteer with the Senior Medicare Patrol since 2016, Dan Louis was previously Managing Director of the Center for Research in Medical Education and Health Care, and Research Associate Professor of Family and Community Medicine at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. While teaching medical students about the US health care system he became aware of the financial and human cost of Medicare fraud which led him to become an SMP volunteer. Dan has also been doing research and teaching in Italy for over 30 years! He has two daughters, a high school English teacher and a nurse midwife, and three wonderful grandchildren

After registering, you will receive a unique link to use to access this online event. Make sure you have the confirmation email or the link available to you the day of the event.
You will need access to a laptop or desktop with reliable high-speed internet connection and audio/video capability for the duration of the workshop is strongly recommended. Mobile devices such as iPhone are not recommended for this workshop.
Comfortable being on-camera: Participants will be asked to keep cameras on for the workshop so that they can interact.
