What is this?
We will meet at the EF SEPTA Station for the 11:21 train, and go on to lunch at the newly opened Bourse, 111 S Independence Mall East. Once home to the nation's first commodities exchange market, the 123 year old Bourse building is now restored to its original glory and lives on as an artisinal food hall of diverse menus, new concepts and renowned chefs.
If you would rather skip lunch, meet us at 2 pm at the American Philosophical Society's Museum (104 S 5th Street), to see "In Franklin's Footsteps", which celebrates the 275 year history of APS, the nation's oldest learned society. Benjamin Franklin founded the Society in 1743 and APS Members have continued Franklin's Enlightenment Mission ever since.
A private tour, at 2 pm on December 3, will guide us through highlights of the exhibit, which include Franklin's library chair, Darwin's handwritten title page of "On the Origin of Species", an original journal from the Lewis and Clark expedition, Neil Armstrong's annotated copy of the moon landing transcript, and much more.
The tour is about 45 minutes long, and costs $5, payable when we arrive at the Museum.
Numbers are limited, so please register promptly, either here on line or at 265-444-4507 (M-F, 9-6).
